Our Nokia 5800 Review

Nokia 5800 Front

The Nokia 5800 Express Music is the first touchscreen mobile phone from Nokia. It comes in a choice of three colours, red, blue and black, and at just 52mm across, it is designed for one-hand operation. Overall, it is a very sleek model indeed.

The 3.2-inch high-resolution touchscreen isn’t quite up to the same standard as some of the more expensive models, but it is perfectly usable and it looks great. It also comes with automatic screen rotation and can be used as an alphanumeric or Qwerty keypad. The included stylus also provides an extra handwriting-recognition option.

The 3G HSDPA connection provides super-fast download speeds, and the Web browser is great. The Nokia 5800 is also able to connect via WiFi and Bluetooth to provide extra connection options. Flash support means users to watch YouTube videos and other online video content, and Nokia Maps takes advantage of the GPS positioning included in the phone.

The 3.2 Megapixel camera complete with Carl Zeiss lens is capable of taking some great pictures. The lens is located on the back of the phone and it includes two LED assist lights for the flash and a 3X digital zoom. With the fast Web connection, users can also put their snaps online straight away to share with others.

The Nokia 5800 also comes with high-resolution widescreen video capabilities with up to 4X digital zoom. 90 minutes of video are possible on the 8GB microSD card, although this can be upgraded to a 16GB card, and it also allows for 3G video calling.

The phone can hold up to 2,000 MP3s on the 8GB microSD card, and users can search their library by artist, genre, song and album. The 8-band graphic equaliser and stereo speakers provide great sound quality and surround sound. 5800 Users can also visit the Nokia Music Store directly from their phone to download more music.

Overall the Nokia 5800 is a great first touchscreen offering from Nokia. It is feature packed, looks great and provides great value for money. If you are looking for a more affordable option in a smartphone, the 5800 could just be what you are looking for.

User Comments

While the review says that the 5800 is too expensive, I'd have to disagree.. there are a lot of crappy phones floating around with higher prices… this phone delivers great results, so worth every penny

The Nokia Xpress series are great for music lovers. I think it's the simplicity of the music player that makes this mobile phone popular… add to that its cool touch screen
